Professor Helgi Silm is a long-time experienced dermatovenerologist (doctor of skin and venereal diseases), medical scientist and professor emeritus.
She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu and completed her postgraduate degree there as well.
In 1991, she became the head of the Tartu University Dermatology Clinic and a professor at the Tartu University.
Since 2015, Prof. Silm has also been working at the Elite Clinic. Prof. Silm deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases and advises on prevention.
Prof. Silm is a member of the following organizations:
- Estonian Society of Dermatovenereologists (former President, Member of the Board)
- Estonian Association of Sexually Transmitted Infections
- European Academy of Dermatovenerology
- Vice-President of the Baltic Association of Dermatovenerologists
- Eastern European Association of Dermatovenerologists

In 2008, Prof. Silm was awarded the Order of the Estonian Red Cross II class, in 2010 the Grand Medal of the University of Tartu, and in 2020 the Order of Merit “100 semesters at the University of Tartu”.
Prof. Silm’s contribution to Estonian medical science is significant, she has participated in the publication of more than 130 publications.
